Westwood Mission's Rockin' House Band

There were a handful of musicians on staff, and we'd occasionally get together to jam. Our first official gig came in May 1979 when we had an open house celebration of our new building. That's me in the foreground playing a somewhat rare Fender Coronado 12-string guitar.

The band didn't have a name, but one of the PRO execs thought we ought to have one for such an auspicious occasion. She came up with "Power Trend." We all liked it, so the name stuck. It may have been one of the few good ideas that came out of that department.

These photos were from another event some time later. Two of our staff got married and had the ceremony and reception at the Mission. Power Trend was the logical choice for the evening's entertainment.

The guy in the foreground in the bottom photo is Walt. He and I played together in a band before either of us were staff members. Walt and I would eventually become songwriting collaborators and form our own band.
